There is something so special about a first birthday. It is not really about how much the little one will remember, it is about creating a moment that the family will always remember for them.
That feeling became the inspiration behind Woodland & Bubbles, a soft and whimsical first birthday collection filled with little woodland friends, garden flowers and floating bubbles.
I wanted the theme to feel playful and childlike, but still delicate and timeless. Instead of creating a traditional woodland party with darker forest colors, I imagined a little garden in spring, soft pinks, butter yellow, powder blue, warm neutrals and touches of green. A place where bears, bunnies, hedgehogs and tiny birds could wander through flowers on their way to celebrate.
The phrase that helped bring the whole story together was:
“Woodland friends are on their way, blowing bubbles to celebrate”
From there, the collection started to feel like its own little storybook.

A Woodland First Birthday With a Softer Feel
Woodland birthday parties are such a sweet theme for babies and toddlers because they naturally connect to childhood, imagination and the outdoors. For this collection, I wanted to give that classic idea a softer, more feminine garden feel.
The illustrations from Michelle Lee, became the heart of the design. Woodland animals in tiny party hats walk alongside a little girl while flowers grow around them and bubbles float through the scene. I carried those same characters and floral details throughout the invitation, activity placemat, favor pieces and table decor so everything would feel connected. Rather than every piece matching perfectly, I love when a party feels layered, as though all the details belong in the same world.
Bringing the Design to the Kids’ Table
One of my favorite parts of this theme is seeing the flat artwork become something dimensional.
The woodland characters and flowers were transformed into a layered centerpiece running through the middle of the kids’ table, almost like the little friends were actually walking through a garden.
Soft scalloped plates, blush party hats, floral patterns, personalized water bottles and activity placemats helped continue the story at each place setting. I also incorporated beautiful floral cake decorations and scalloped tableware from @merimeri, which complemented the collection perfectly without taking away from the illustrated details.
And, of course, bubbles were part of the setting too. They added movement and that little bit of childhood magic that inspired the collection in the first place.

Little Details With a Purpose
I always love adding elements that children can actually interact with.
For this collection, the activity placemat includes simple first-birthday-friendly games surrounded by the same woodland characters and garden illustrations. The favors and thank-you pieces continue the theme with sweet phrases like “Thanks for popping by.”
There is also a first-year milestone board, making the theme work beautifully beyond the table itself.
Those are the details I love most—not decoration just for decoration’s sake, but pieces that become part of the celebration.
A Theme Made for a First Year
The more I worked on Woodland & Bubbles, the more the theme became about that very first year of childhood.
A year filled with first discoveries, tiny adventures and moments that can feel ordinary while they are happening, but become some of the memories we hold onto the longest.
That is what I wanted this collection to capture: something joyful and innocent, with a little nostalgia woven into it.
A garden full of friends.
A few floating bubbles.
And one very special first year.
